Importing CRM Accounts into Sales Territories

Import and visualize CRM account data in Population Explorer to map customers and align them with sales territories.

Overview

Importing your CRM account data into Population Explorer allows you to visualize customers, prospects, or store locations directly on your sales territory maps. Many organizations maintain account lists in spreadsheets or CRM platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot. By importing these records into Population Explorer, you can instantly connect business data with geographic and demographic context. Together, a CRM integrated with PopEx provides a powerful solution suite for managing sales operations.

When you upload a file containing addresses or latitude and longitude coordinates, Population Explorer geocodes each record and plots it as a marker on the map. You can then group these points into folders that correspond to your existing sales territories. This process enables you to identify overlaps, coverage gaps, or high-density account clusters that may inform future territory adjustments; nearly identical to workflows in insurance territory management, franchise expansion and restaurant site selection.

Imported CRM points can also be cross-referenced with Population Explorer’s demographic layers, including LandScan and WorldPop population data, income statistics, and Google POI integrations. This helps your team determine whether the right accounts are being targeted in the right markets based on real-world population and purchasing power.

Step-by-Step

1. Prepare Your CRM Data

Export your account list from your CRM system as a .xlsx or .csv file. Each row should contain either a full address or latitude and longitude coordinates.

2. Import into Population Explorer

In the left drawer, click New → Import Data, then upload your CRM file. Population Explorer will geocode each record and create a new marker layer containing your accounts.

3. Organize Accounts into Territory Folders

Select all or some of your imported markers and move them into the appropriate Folder representing a sales territory. You can create new folders as needed using New → Create Folder.

4. Compare Accounts with Demographic Layers

Review Population and Income layers to see how your accounts align with demographic potential. Look for areas with high account density but low population or income to identify imbalances.

5. Save and Export Results

Once organized, click Export to save your combined account and territory data as an Excel (.xlsx) or KML (.kml) file.

Verification

Confirm that all imported markers appear in the correct locations and within the right folders. Check for missing coordinates or unmatched addresses, which can occur if geocoding fails for incomplete data.
